William R. ‘Bill’ Tittle, 68, passed away Wednesday, August 30, 2017 at Harrington Memorial Hospital in Southbridge after a courageous battle with gastric cancer. He leaves behind his wife of 43 years, Jane M. (Meehan) Tittle, three sons; Chris J. Tittle and his wife Carolyn of Leicester, Jonathan D. Tittle and his wife Tammy of Brimfield, and Matt W. Tittle and his wife Amanda of Leicester,4 grandchildren; Colton, Chloe, Hunter and Charlee, his father, Billy Tittle and his wife Maria of Webster, brothers and sisters; Brenda Martin of Ohio, Debbe Makowski of Webster, David Tittle and his wife Susan and Brian of Charlton, and Paula Gaudet and her husband Ron of Old Lyme, CT., brothers-in-law: Paul Meehan and his wife Felicia, David Meehan and his wife Keena, John Meehan and his wife Dawn and Thomas Meehan, his Best Friend in the World, Ron Dragon of Sturbridge, and he cherished the time spent with his friends and neighbors ; the Kalwarcyzk’s, the Spahl's, and the Nicoletti’s.
Bill was born in Southbridge, January 4, 1949, son of the late Terese (Gibeault) Tittle and was raised and lived in Dudley most of his life. He was a 1967 graduate of the former Marian Hill Catholic High School in Southbridge, and was class president, he later graduated from Providence College and earned a B.A. degree in philosophy and psychology, graduated from Nichols College and earned a M.A. degree, he also graduated from Worcester State College and earned another M.A. degree in history and attended Clark University studying and doing refresher courses.
As his children grew up he coached soccer, track and field and T-ball also, for 24 years he followed and attended his kids baseball, football and hockey games.
He started teaching, after a career change and enjoyed bringing in and playing his guitar, first at Mason Rd. School and later he taught history at Shepherd Hill Regional High School where he retired in June 2016 after 20 years.
He always referred to his students as “His Kids” and he always treated them as family and even after they graduated, they kept in contact with him. He sincerely ‘Cared about All his students’, he even liked to paint murals, one of which is still in his homeroom, and another in the lower level of his home. He enjoyed visiting Mayflower Beach in Dennis and his trip to Ireland, his Best Buddies were his labs, Dante and Abbie. His yard and gardens were a special place, often consulting with his neighbors several times a day about improvements and accomplishments. Bill started his own vineyard,” The Vineyard at Sawmill Rd.” another hobby and accomplishment which he enjoyed.
Bill’s Funeral Mass will be Monday, September 4, 2017 at 11 AM at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 24 Dudley Hill Rd.(Kindly meet at the Church) Burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Friends and Relatives are invited to meet with Bill’s family for calling hours on Sunday, September 3, 2017 from 4-8pm at the ROBERT J. MILLER FUNERAL HOME and LAKE CHAPEL, 366 School St., Webster.
