FALL RIVER – Eduardo J. Raposo, age 88, passed away peacefully on August 31, 2017 at Somerset Ridge Center. He was the beloved husband of the late Ilda (Couto) Raposo. Born in Sao Roque, Sao Miguel, Acores, he was the son of the late Virginio Raposo and Virginia (Furtado) Ribeiro. Eduardo served in the Portuguese Army. He was a member of the Academica Club, Portuguese Continental Union of the United States of America, Honorary member of Ateneu Louso American Club and Amigos da Terceira of Pawtucket, RI. Eduardo was a frequent patron of T.A.‘s Restaurant during lunchtime. In his younger years he played soccer, hockey, and was a member of the Clubo Naval and Swimming Club in Ponta Delgada. When he first arrived to the U.S. he worked as a construction worker, then prior to retirement he worked for Lightolier for many years and as maintenance at Rosewood Nursing Home.
Eduardo is survived by his children Bert Raposo (wife Maria) of Westport and Lubelia “Bella” Reis (husband Manuel) of Fall River; sister Lidia Sousa of Arlington; grandchildren Kathy Barbon, Paul Reis, Chris Raposo, Derek Raposo and Philip Raposo; as well as 12 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by many brothers & sisters.
His funeral will take place from the Manuel Rogers & Sons Funeral Home 1521 N. Main St. Fall River on Wednesday here at 9 A.M. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial St. Michael’s Church at 10 A.M. Interment in Notre Dame Cemetery. Calling hours on Tuesday from 4-8 P.M. www.rogersfuneral.com.
