Kenneth Lothrop, age 85, of Weymouth passed away after a long illness on August 28, 2017. Ken was born, raised, and educated in Quincy. After graduating N. Quincy High in 1950 he served in the Army in Germany for two years then, following his service, Ken attended Eastern Nazarene College. He soon got married to his wife of 55 years, Jean. They settled in Weymouth where they started a family and cultivated many memories together. Ken worked as a research chemist for ten years then moved into teaching chemistry at Marshfield High until retirement in 1999. Ken was a man of many talents, some of which he remained passionate about throughout his life such as photography, outdoor activities and travel. He was very active at Old South Union Church where he served as a deacon for four terms. Ken enjoyed helping people, during his time teaching he would volunteer tutoring chemistry and encouraging his students to work hard for their careers.
Ken is survived by his beloved wife Jean Lothrop (Kelsay) of Weymouth, his loving children Scott Lothrop of Weymouth, and Bruce Lothrop and his wife Stephanie Mahan of Virginia. He is also survived by his grandchildren Kelsae, Hannah, and Connor Lothrop, and Nate Levitt.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to the visiting hours for Ken on Monday September 4, 2017 from 4-7pm in the C. C. Shepherd Funeral Home located at 134 Pleasant St. (Columbian Sq.) Weymouth, MA 02190. A Memorial Service in honor of Ken will take place on Tuesday at 10am in the Old South Union Church Located at 25 Columbian St. Weymouth, MA 02190. Donations in memory of Ken may be made to the Old South Union Scholarship Fund at the above church address or donations may be made to the Weymouth Food Pantry at 40 Reservoir Park Drive, Unit B, Rockland, MA 02370.
