WINDHAM- Barbara Ann Dusek, age 90, of Windham, passed away at her home on Aug. 29, 2017. She was formerly of Framingham and Edgartown,
and Martha's Vineyard.
Born in Newton, daughter of the late Douglas D. Furbush and Alice
Carlson Furbush and the widow of Raymond L. Dusek Jr. RMC/USN
who died on active duty in 1965.
A graduate of Newton High School, Leland Powers, and Boston University,
Northeastern University where she earned her BS degree in Personnel and
Industrial Relations, and an FCC Radio Engineers License. She worked in
Saginaw, Michigan for radio station WSAM, and for WHIT in New Bern,
North Carolina. She joined the Navy during the Korean conflict and served
as a Flight Orderly in VR-1, and communications specialist., where she met
and married her husband
After her husband died, she returned to work for New England Telephone
as an operator, then as dispatch clerk, and was one of the first women to
enter the crafts as a Central Office Technician.
Barbara was elected secretary of Local 2325 IBEW and served for over ten
years. Also President of the Framingham Council Telephone Pioneers,
and as a retiree, President of the Framingham Life Members Telephone
Pioneers in 1992 and 1993, and 2000-2009. She was also a member of the
Newton Women's Post American Legion #410, Gold Star Wives, Brownie,
Girl Scout, and Cub Scout Leader, and the Framinghma Sharpshooters Drum
and Bugle Corp. She also worked as an operator at Sears in Natick, and
Receptionist for Zymark in Hopkinton, MA.
She is survived by 5 children, Raymond Dusek III of Billings, Montana,
Carol D. Vose of Windham, Richard Dusek of Ayer, Massachusetts, Cheryl
D. O'Connell of Salem, New Hampshire, and Carla D. Larson of Tacoma,
Washington. Eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Also, her brothers Douglas Furbush Jr., USN/WW2, of Millis, Massachusetts,
Carl Furbush, USN/WW2, of Framingham, Massachusetts, and Norman
"Fuzzy" Furbush, USAF/Korean War, of Melbourne, Florida.
Preceding her in death were Wesley J. Furbush II, USA/WW2, Alice Marie
Furbush, and Thelma Edwards, USMC/WW2, of Newton, Massachusetts.
