Arthur R. Desmarais, 74, of Woonsocket entered into eternal peace on Sunday August 27, 2017 at home surrounded by his loving family. Born on August 21, 1943 in Bellingham he was a son of the late Clovis F. and Anastasie C. (Bernier) Desmarais.
He leaves behind his beloved wife of 52 years Felice C. Desmarais and their four children Michelle and husband Daniel Taylor, grandchildren Justin and Meagan of North Smithfield, Jacqueline Conder, Steven Conder, and granddaughters Michaela and Kelsey of Olathe, KS, Jocelyne and husband Mark Adkins, grandson Joel of Oak Park, IL and Emile Desmarais and wife Cheryl, grandchildren Collin and Jillian of Harrisville.
Arthur is predeceased by brothers Clovis F. Desmarais, Jr.and Albert Desmarais. He is survived by his sister Sr. Marie Claire Pauline Desmarais, PM of Methuen MA, brother Jean Charles Desmarais and wife Ruth of Montgomery, AL, brother-in-law Robert Martineau and wife Kathi, brother-in-law Emile Martineau and wife Aline, sister in-law Muriel and husband Joseph Deslauriers and nieces and nephews, Denise Kowalewsksi, Paul, David and John Desmarais, Tracy Gabriel, Celeste Provost, Master Sgt. Joseph Deslauriers (Ret.), Kim Jackson and Melissa Alexander.
Arthur was a full-time member of the Rhode Island Army National Guard, retiring in 1995 as Chief Warrant Officer 2. Arthur was a loyal and loving family man who showed strength and humility throughout his life. He loved history, nature and fishing. Arthur was a patriot to his country and a concerned citizen in civic matters.
His funeral will be Thursday at 9:30 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph Church, 1200 Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial with Military Honors will follow in Resurrection Cemetery on West Wrentham Rd. in Cumberland. Visiting hours are Wednesday from 4-7 pm.
