Zelvis, John E., age 89, passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 26, 2017. Born in Boston, he grew up in South Boston, graduated from South Boston High School and served in the Navy for period of time. Mr. Zelvis was a talented musician who played the guitar and the accordion. He was a proud member of a band known as “Tex Zelvis and the Dixie Bells”, that played at various venues around New England including the Hillbilly Ranch at Park Square in Boston. Mr. Zelvis raised his family in Dorchester and was employed as an Electronic Technician for Raytheon Corp. until his retirement. He and his wife moved to Kingston two years ago. Mr. Zelvis was a tremendous sports fan who loved to follow the Red Sox and the Patriots. The beloved husband of the late Anna M. (Veneto) Zelvis, he was the devoted father of Paul J. Zelvis (BPD) of Duxbury and the late Jonathan E. Zelvis and dear father-in-law of Kristen Zelvis of Duxbury and Karen Zelvis of Rockland. He was the cherished grandfather of Benjamin Paul, Olivia Mae and Abigail Grace Zelvis and Brendan McCaughey as well as the loving brother of the late Joseph Zelvis. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Agatha Church, Milton, Tuesday morning, August 29, 2017 at 10:30. Visiting hours at the Alfred D. Thomas Funeral Home, 326 Granite Ave., Milton, Monday, August 28, 2017 from 4 of 8 PM. Burial in Cedar Grove Cemetery, Dorchester.
