Obituary

Paul F. Stokinger, 84, of Rockland, formerly of Whitman, August 22, 2017 after a brief illness. Devoted father of ten children, grandfather of eighteen and great grandfather of six. He was the husband of the late Joanne (Riley) Stokinger for 51 years, son of the late Henry and Mary (Freiburger) Stokinger and brother of the late Richard and Thomas Stokinger.

Survived by his daughters Marianne DiCicco and her fiancée Bruce Hanson of Nashua, NH; Rita of Pembroke and Ellen Greene and her husband Rick of Livermore Falls, ME; and sons Paul Jr. of Jacksonville, FL; Peter and his wife Pamela of Mansfield; Philip of Oak Ridge, TN; Gerald and his wife Kozuko of Okinawa, Japan; Robert and his wife Jean of Pembroke; John and his wife Christine of Brockton and Daniel and his wife Fran of Whitman, also survived by his dear friend Ruth Carpenter of Whitman and his sisters Ruth Peabody of Chatham and Carol Reetz of Largo, FL; and many grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and friends.

A graduate of Sumner High School and the Bentley School of Accounting and Finance, he worked in sales for Store Service Press/Sheldon Press for over forty years. He also proudly served in the US Navy from 1951 through 1959. He raised his family in Whitman where he lived for forty-five years and where he was involved in many activities at the Holy Ghost church including the Cunniff Pine Street Inn Food Group and Troop 22 of the Boy Scouts of America. In 1990 he was awarded the St. George Emblem for his work in Scouting, the highest honor presented by the Catholic Church to honor the outstanding services of leaders contributing to the spiritual development of Catholic Youth.

His services will be held Tuesday August 29 at 9:45 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 10:30 AM in the Holy Ghost Church, Whitman. Burial will follow in the St. James Cemetery, Whitman. Visiting hours will be held Monday August 28 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
