Obituary

Meredith-----Esther Blake Mountfort died peacefully on August 19, 2017 at Golden View Health Care Center. Daughter of Bernard and Emma Sawyer Robie, she was born in Gilford N.H. on July 19, 1933.


Esther worked as a rural mail carrier for the U.S. Postal Service in Laconia for 25 years. In her retirement, summers were spent in Maine and winters in Florida. She enjoyed participating in many family reunions over the years, visiting with friends, and sharing her homemade goodies with all. Friends and family always looked forward to her famous caramel corn at Christmas. Her decadent brownies and handcrafted root beer were also highly coveted treats. She was a lifetime member of the Evangelical Baptist Church and a faithful servant to the Lord.


Esther was predeceased by her husband, Gilford Police Chief Eugene Blake in 1982, infant daughter Diane, daughter Gwendolyn Blake Whedon, her brother Paul B. Robie and second husband Reverend G. Richard Mountfort.


She is survived by her sisters Mary Godbout and Lois Dubois Jewell, sister-in-law Lorraine Robie,and her son Ronald E. Blake and wife Judith of Meredith, N.H. She also leaves behind 6 grandchildren: James C. Whedon and wife Nicole of Northfield, N.H., Ryan Whedon of Tampa, Florida, Melissa Blake of Los Angeles, CA, Erik Blake and wife Marla of Vero Beach, FL, Joy Blake and husband Matthew Meduri of Los Angeles, CA, and Jessica Blake Rooney and husband Jason of Wrangell, AK; 11 great grandchildren: Blake M. Whedon, Sydney and Andrew Blake, Luella, Penelope, Feiffer and Juno Meduri, Alexander, Nathaniel, Sawyer and Claire Rooney; and many nieces, nephews, and members of the Mountfort family, whom she loved dearly.


A service will be held at the Evangelical Baptist Church, 50 Washington Street, Laconia NH on Friday, September 1, 2017 at 1:00pm, followed by burial in Pine Grove Cemetery, Gilford, N.H.
