Obituary



SULLIVAN, JOHN J. (Sully, J.J., Dado) age 85, died peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on August 22, 2017.

Loving husband of the late Catherine “Catty” McDonough. Devoted father of Kathleen M. Sullivan of Pembroke, John J. II and his wife Pattie (Ridge) of Quincy, Martin B. of South Boston, William G. and his wife Deb (Martin) of Norwood, Stephen P. of South Boston, Sheila Landy and husband Tim of Pembroke as well as Patrick M. of South Boston. Also predeceased by an infant daughter, Marie. Survived by 19 grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren and one angel. Son of the late Martin B. and Mary "Red" (McDonough) Sullivan Brother of Margaret M. and the late Francis Hennessey of Virginia, Martin B. and wife Dorothy of Braintree, Mary (Midge) R. and the late Ronald “Butch” Tobias of Quincy, and Patricia and husband Ronald Lescinskas of Quincy. Dear friend and companion of Lucy Costigliola of South Boston. Friend of Bill W. for 48 years.

John was born and raised in South Boston, played football for the Mercers, and was a life long parishioner of St. Augustine Parish. John’s love for his wife and children knew no bounds and his faith in God was unshakeable. He was of high moral character with a clear sense of right and wrong as well as being extremely generous. He believed strongly in the value of a good education and worked two jobs to provide for his children. John will be deeply missed by his family who is consoled knowing that he is now reunited with his beloved wife Catty, his sweetheart since the age of 15, and their angel Marie.

Visiting hours will be held at the Casper Funeral Home located at 187 Dorchester Street in South Boston on Monday from 4-8 PM. A Funeral Mass will be held at St.Brigid's in South Boston on Tuesday at 10 AM followed by interment at Cedar Grove Cemetery.
