Joyce Ida Gunter, 91, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Wednesday, August 23, 2017, at her daughter’s home in Valdosta, Georgia.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Friday, August 25, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with Jamie Bone and the Rev. Hale Bishop officiating. Interment will follow in Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6-8 Thursday evening at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Gunter was born April 25, 1926, in Cherokee County, Oklahoma, to the late Viola Clark. She attended Central High School in Tahlequah, Oklahoma. After marriage, she moved to Fitzgerald. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend. She worked as a seamstress for Fitzgerald Underwear. Her hobbies included spending time with her family, baking, sewing, crocheting, gardening, and working with ceramics. Mrs. Gunter was a longtime member of Central United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her children and their spouses: Janet & Eddie Lamon of Valdosta and Brian & Beverly Gunter of Fitzgerald; her grandchildren: Will & Karen Kelly, Jed DeFore, Jamie & April Lamon, Joe Lamon, Brandelyn & Charles House, and Benjamin & Sara Gunter; great-grandchildren: Spain Kelly, Adam Kelly, Mara Lamon, Tyler Lamon, Weston House, Wilson House, and Sullivan Gunter; numerous nieces and nephews; and her beloved dog, Shaggy. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Julian Gunter; a daughter, Tommie Lynn Rainey; a son, Richard Terry Gunter; and a brother, Clarence “Butch” Dudley.
