Alice (Birt) Wheeler, 99, of Berlin, passed away on Wednesday August 23, 2017 at the Coos County Nursing Home. She was born in Berlin on November 3, 1917 the daughter of the late Temple and Mary (Basque) Birt and graduated from Berlin High in 1935. She had resided in Florida for a time where she enjoyed knitting helmet liners for the US Troops and worked with the Council of Catholic Women at St. Raphael Church in Englewood, FL, starting in 2007, to mail 3,164 packages to the Troops. She continued to knit for RSVP. Alice attended Good Shepherd Parish.
Family includes her daughter Elizabeth Roy and husband Vaughn of Berlin, NH; grandsons Vaughn Roy and wife Lisa of Dover, NH and Christian Roy and wife Karen of Milan, NH; great granddaughters Grace and Claire Roy of Dover and Emily Roy (who affectionately referred to her as “Alice the Great”) of Milan, NH; sister Emma Garneau of North Conway, NH; nephews Clifford Carroll and wife Marie of Rome, NY and George Carroll and wife Christine of Bradford, MA; nieces Sue Potter and husband Skip of Chesterfield, MO and Kathy Bergeron and husband Ed of North Conway, NH. She was predeceased by siblings Leon, Leona and Edith.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anne Church of Good Shepherd Parish on Saturday August 26, 2017 at 10 AM. Interment will be in the Calvary Cemetery. There will be no calling hours. The Bryant Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Donations in her memory may be made to the Mother Marie Rivier Food Pantry, 151 Emery St., Berlin, NH, 03570.
