The soul of our beloved Mrs. Betty Kitchens passed on to the spirit world on August 17th, 2017, surrounded by God’s love at the age of 85. Mrs. Kitchens was born to Johnny and Ida Mae Livingston in Rochelle, Georgia on January 13, 1932, as the youngest daughter of six children, including Dona Fletcher, Helen (Ollie Mae) Story, Emory Livingston, Sara Farmer and Pauline Fletcher, all of whom preceded her in passing. Mrs. Kitchens was married to the late, very loving and devoted Mr. Henry Kitchens.
She also worked full time prior to her retirement from General Motors. Her hobbies included antique shopping, gardening and collecting many trinkets that filled her house with beauty.
Mrs. Kitchens was a woman of faith and was a member of the Church of Nazarene in Fitzgerald, Georgia. Many people remember her door always being open, her words being loving and kind, her friendly face and delicious cooking. She loved and cared for many of her loved ones prior to her stroke in 2007, after which she came to trust others to take care of her. She moved to Maryland to live with her son in 2011.
She is survived by her loving and only son, Tim Kitchens and his wife Samantha Morrow (and Samantha's children, Chance and Alizabeth Kenyon) of New Market, Maryland; her grandson, Scott Kitchens of Basalt, Colorado; and many family members, life-long friends, and special, loving caregivers.
Celebration service of her life will be held Saturday August 26th, 2017 at the Church of Nazarene in Fitzgerald GA. There will be an open viewing from 2 - 3 pm. The celebration service will start at 3 pm followed by interment at Young Cemetery in Ben Hill County. The Church of Nazarene will provide a reception for all guests upon return from the cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Fitzgerald Church of the Nazarene in Mrs. Kitchens honor are welcome and may be sent to P.O. Box 1007, Fitzgerald GA 31750.
