Obituary

Suzanne L. (Billings) Dawson of East Bridgewater, Massachusetts died on August 18, 2017, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Brockton, MA, of complications from Alzheimer's disease.

Born on May 21, 1946 at the Boston Lying-in Hospital, Suzanne was the daughter of the late William R. Billings and Virginia E. (Illsley) Billings of Weymouth, Massachusetts.

Suzanne was raised in Weymouth and graduated from Weymouth High School in 1964. She attended Burdette Junior College in Boston, and in 1966 became a Legal Secretary for the law firm of Rackemann, Sawyer & Brewster in Boston.

Suzanne married C. William Dawson in August 1968 and moved to East Bridgewater in 1974, where she raised two children and worked as a teacher’s aide and library assistant at East Bridgewater High School and the Public Library.

Suzanne had a creative spirit - she loved music, painted watercolors, embroidered fabrics, and baked beautiful edibles for all the holidays throughout the year. In her later years, she spent much time tending her garden of a wide variety of flowers, which she adored her whole life. She travelled with her husband around the world, and related with awe stories of the natural and human-made wonders she had seen. She loved all peoples, and treated everyone gently with her kind, respectful and empathic manner.

Suzanne was a hospice volunteer, a cofounder of Women South of Boston, a long and active member of Union Congregational Church in East Bridgewater and a Women’s Place worker.

Suzanne was a devoted daughter; wife, mother and grandmother, and she had many friends that she loved dearly.

She is survived by her husband, her son Brian Dawson of Arlington, Massachusetts, her daughter Rebecca Lynn (Dawson) Coletta & her husband Gregory and granddaughter Madeleine Suzanne of Mansfield, Massachusetts.

Her funeral service will be held Wednesday August 23 at 10:00 AM in the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman. Burial will follow at 2:30 PM in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. Visiting hours will be held Tuesday August 22 from 4:00-7:00 PM.
