Susan C. Desautels, 65, of Woonsocket passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Thursday August 17, 2017 after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the loving wife of Daniel P. Desautels. They were married on July 14, 1991, Sue’s 39th birthday.
Born and raised in Woonsocket she was daughter of the late Henri and Loretta (Allard) Tousignant. She was a lifelong resident of the city and a graduate of Woonsocket High School Class of 1970.
Sue was employed as a CNA at several local facilities including Sven Hills and Maples Nursing Home in Wrentham.
Sue was a supporter of the Special Olympics of Rhode Island. She enthusiastically cheered on her children and grandchildren’s involvement with the Lincoln NorthStars. Sue was a staunch Patriots fan, was talented at sewing and crafts and enjoyed dining out.
Sue will be remembered as a loving, kind, strong, tell-it-like-it-is person. Sue grabbed life by the horns and never let go. She was an active and outgoing person, a friend to all who knew her.
In addition to her husband she is survived by a daughter Jennifer (L’Heureux) Archambault-Brannan and her husband Timothy Brannan of North Smithfield, four sons James L’Heureux of Woonsocket, Paul Desautels of Providence, Richard Desautels of Cranston and Dylan Desautels of Woonsocket. She was the sister of Richard and Robert Tousignant both of Woonsocket, Constance “Connie” Grady of Cumberland, Jeannine Mattair of FL., and the late Jean Tousignant. She is also survived by 7 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews and their families.
Her funeral will be Wednesday at 9:30 am from the Menard-Lacouture Funeral Home, 127 Carrington Ave. Woonsocket followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am in St. Joseph’s Church, Mendon Rd. Woonsocket. Burial will be private. Visiting hours are Tuesday from 4-8 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made the Special Olympics of RI, 370 George Washington Hwy.
