WATERTOWN - Rene J. Hermes, 88, died peacefully on Tuesday, August 15, 2017 at UMass Memorial Medical Center, Worcester.
He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Marguerite R. (Assaf) Hermes. Rene also will be missed by his two children and their families, Rosemarie Melkonian and her husband, Berje of Shrewsbury and their children, Arthur and Carine Melkonian and Joseph E. Hermes and his wife, Julie of West Palm Beach and their children, Rene and Ralph Hermes; his four great grandchildren, Andre, Nareg and Stefan Melkonian and Aziz Joseph Hermes; his four siblings, Juliette Hamboyan of Wakefield, Edgar Hermes of Pennsylvania, Jacqueline Ghazzi of Lebanon and Antoinette Frenchebon of Geneva, Switzerland; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Bro. Edmond Hermes of Lebanon. Rene was born in Beirut, Lebanon a son of the late Joseph and Rose (Voskorian) Hermes. Rene and his wife relocated to the United States in 1988 and settled in Watertown, where he has lived for almost 30 years. Prior to his retirement, Rene worked as a sales associate in the mattress industry.
His funeral will be celebrated on Monday, August 21 at 11 a.m. at Holy Trinity Armenian Apostolic Church, 635 Grove Street, Worcester. Burial will follow in Hope Cemetery, Worcester.
