Wayne Fussell, 65, of Fitzgerald, Georgia, died Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at his residence.
Funeral services will be held 2 PM, Thursday, August 17, 2017, at The Paulk Funeral Home Chapel in Fitzgerald, with the Rev. Dr. Lloyd Stembridge officiating. Interment will follow in the Evergreen Cemetery. The family will receive friends Wednesday evening, from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mr. Fussell was born March 11, 1952, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late J. C. “Dick” & Frances Sumner Fussell. He attended Irwin County High School and lived in the community all of his life. He retired as Captain from the Fitzgerald Fire Department serving the City for 39 years. He drove a semi for D & F Grain and enjoyed farrier work. His lifelong love for horses included both riding and roping. He was a member of Arbor Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, Jan Fussell of Fitzgerald; siblings and their spouses: Carolyn F. Daniel, Harris & Sandra Fussell, Billy Fussell, Martha F. “Cookie” & Johnny Marsh, Faye F. & Richard Gibbs and Sarah Fussell, all of Fitzgerald. Several nieces and nephews also survive. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Jayne W. Fussell and two brothers: James Curtis Fussell and George “Buddy” Fussell.
