Virginia Fowler Johnson, 91, of the Lands Crossing Community, died Sunday, August 13, 2017, at Palemon Gaskins Memorial Nursing Home in Ocilla, Georgia.
Graveside services will be held 11 AM, Wednesday, August 16, 2017, at the Arp Cemetery in Irwin County, with the Rev. Rex Johnson officiating. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 6 PM until 8 PM, at the funeral home in Fitzgerald.
Mrs. Johnson was born September 6, 1925, in Ben Hill County, Georgia, to the late Thomas Arnold & Kathleen Griffin Fowler. She graduated from Fitzgerald High School and caught a train to Washington, D.C. where she worked on the War Board until the war ended. Mrs. Johnson married Paul Johnson and lived in Tift County. She continued to be a farm wife raising her children while residing in Tift County and Irwin County. She enjoyed fishing, gardening and reading. Mrs. Johnson was a member of Arp Baptist Church.
She is survived by her children: Cathy Bishop & William of the Lands Crossing Community and Paula Ball & Wade of Abbeville; grandchildren: Pam & Rex Johnson and Amy Bishop, of the Lands Crossing Community, Jody & Laura Branch of Ocilla, Josh & Anna Branch of Cordele, A J & Wendy Johnson of Birmingham, Alabama, Shannon & Thomas Horton and Linsey & Brian Shockley, all of Tifton; great-grandchildren: Chet & Sara Johnson, Eli Johnson, Brylee Branch, Shelby Branch, Cody Branch, McKenzie Branch, Harper Branch, Christopher Horton, Cassie Horton; Cody Johnson and Willa Bishop; one brother, Jerry & Janet Fowler of Texas and special sisters-in-Christ: Inez Reeves, Nancy Fowler and Vivian Hancock. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul Johnson; a son, Jack Johnson and two brothers: Winfred Fowler and Emory Fowler.
