Leicester- Judith (Pfuntner) Nowers, 76, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 11, 2017 at UMass University Campus surrounded by her loving family. She is survived by her three children- Dale R. Nowers, Michelle J. Nowers and her wife Jennie, and David B. Nowers and his wife Allison Stevens; mother Harriet Pfuntner; sister Sharon Peters; four grandchildren; and three great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband of 52 years Darel C. Nowers in 2014 and by her daughter Daryl Ann Nowers in 2016.
Judith was born in Lynn, MA, daughter of Richard and Harriet (Barrett) Pfuntner. She graduated from Westbrook College, ME and then went on to be a payroll supervisor at Worcester State Hospital. She was a longtime and devoted member of Epworth United Methodist Church in Worcester where she was an active member of the Deborah Circle. Judy was also a member of the Leicester Lions Club. Judith loved spending time at the family cottage, built by her father at Square Pond, ME. Most importantly she loved her family and was a loving, daughter, wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grand mother to many. Judith spent her life giving to others and will be missed by many.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 18, 2017 at 1:00pm in Epworth United Methodist Church 64 Salisbury St. Worcester, MA. There are no calling hours. Burial will be private at a later date in Maine. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Epworth United Methodist Church or to the UMass Medical Center’s Bone Marrow Transplant Unit.
