Obituary

WEBSTER – Christine M. (Miller) Thomas, 70, of Claremont, CA died Wednesday, June 28, 2017 at her home after a struggle with cancer. Her husband of 42 years, Lynn Louis Thomas, died in 2015.

She leaves a son, Robert Thomas, a daughter, Stephanie Mendoza, and a granddaughter Elizabeth , all of Claremont; her mother, Stella B. (Bogdanowicz) Miller of Webster; a brother, Stephen Miller and his wife Rebecca of Hanover, MD; nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.

She was born and raised in Webster, daughter of the late Peter P. Miller. She graduated from Bartlett High School in 1964 and earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Anthropology from the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor in 1968. She then completed further anthropological studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge. She was also awarded a grant to study artifacts at the Museum of Science in Chicago. She lived on the island of Sumatra, Indonesia when she first married and then moved to Claremont about 1975.

Mrs. Thomas was a library assistant at California Tech of Pomona for 30 years before retiring in 2009. She was an active member of the California State Employee Association, holding many offices at the local and state levels. She was currently a member and treasurer of the National Women’s Club in West Covina and had attended national conventions. She enjoyed knitting and gardening.

A memorial Mass will be held on Wednesday, August 23, at 10:00 AM in St. Joseph Basilica, 53 Whitcomb Street (please meet at the church). Burial will be in St. Joseph Garden of Peace. There are no calling hours. Donations in her name may be made to St. Joseph School Gym Fund, 53 Whitcomb Street, Webster, MA 01570. Arrangements are under the direction of Sitkowski & Malboeuf Funeral Home, 340 School Street, Webster.
