Abington – Frances N. (MacDonald) Purtle 95, a longtime resident of Abington, died Thursday August 3 at the Southwood Nursing Home after a long illness. She was the beloved wife of 71 years to Robert W. Purtle.
Born in Newton in 1921, she was the daughter of the late Samuel and Mary (Cloran) MacDonald.
She was a graduate of Our Lady’s High School in Newton, and the Fay Business School of Boston.
She had worked for New England Art of Abington, and prior to her retirement in 1969, she had worked for the Town of Abington in the office of the Treasurer / Collector and the Water Department.
She is survived by her children Robert Purtle, Jr and his wife Denise of East Bridgewater, Meredith Vincent and her husband Joseph of Abington, and Susan Purtle of Abington and her sister JeanCavanagh of Walpole. She also leaves behind her grandchildren Keven Phelps, Robert Purtle and his wife Alyssa and Erin Purtle, and her great grandson Conor. She was predeceased by five sisters and three brothers as well as her best friend Alice Dumas.
Funeral services will be held Thursday August 10 at 8:15 AM from the Blanchard Funeral Chapel, Plymouth Street (Rte. 58 @ the rotary) Whitman, followed by a funeral Mass at 9:00 AM in St. Bridget Church, Abington. Burial will follow in Blue Hill Cemetery, Braintree. Visiting hours will be held Wednesday August 9 from 4:00-8:00 PM.
