Obituary

Mrs. Kimberly Kay Smith, 57, the soul mate, best friend and rock of her husband of 38 years, Joel Smith, entered into rest on Thursday, August 3, 2017 at Doctors Hospital.

Graveside services will be held at 12:30 PM on Monday, August 7, 2017 at Westover Memorial Park with the Rev. Stuart Ritter officiating.

Kim was skilled in research pathology at MCG and in the Cancer Immunotherapy program at Georgia Cancer Center. She worked for many years in the clinical pathology department as a technician and supervisor in immunohistochemistry. She also brought her vast experience and skills to key areas of cancer research, assisting with major discoveries in new drug treatments for adult and childhood cancers. Throughout her career, she was a valued professional colleague and skilled mentor and teacher to many at the university.

Kim was a kind, beautiful angel, with a big heart and loving and caring soul full of unconditional love. She was a blessing to all who knew her, and leaves loving memories to be cherished by her family and friends.

In addition to her husband, Joel, she is survived by her mother, Jean Turner (Dennis), her brother, Tim Lumley (Jenny), her sisters; Cheryl Morgan, Maryleigh Pratt (Josh), Elisha Turner and Hillary Conn, her aunts and uncles; Gloria LoPinto (Danny), Lou Carreras (Barbara), Tommy Carreras (Judy) and David Barwick (Debbie), a step brother, Dennis Turner (Paige), as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. She is also survived by her two beloved dogs, Daphne and Benson.

She was preceded in death by her father and stepmother; Bill and Sara Lumley, a brother, Tony Lumley, and her precious canine companion of 16 years, Ilex.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday morning, August 7, 2017 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM.
