It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Anthony Robert Zega, Jr., 75, of Londonderry, NH, (formerly of Topsfield, MA). Anthony passed away Wednesday, August 2nd, 2017, surrounded by his family, after a short, but brave battle with cancer.
The oldest of three, he was born to the late Anthony and Helen Zega, in September of 1941. Growing up in Torrington, CT, he graduated from the local high school in 1959. He then went on to study at the University of Connecticut where he earned a BA in Business in 1963. After finishing his degree, he began his career as a Manufacturing Engineer, and married his high school sweetheart, Diane (Ekvall) Zega in June of 1963 (a decision which he claimed to be the best of his life). As a couple, the two left Connecticut to build a life and home in Topsfield - a small country town located on the North Shore of Massachusetts.
In life, Anthony was an avid reader who enjoyed works of fiction. A puzzle enthusiast, he enjoyed crosswords and Sudoku. He also had a deep fondness for the outdoors, where he spent much of his time hiking and exploring local trails. In addition to these passions, he had a talent for working with his hands. The consummate “handy-man,” Anthony was known to lend a helping hand to both loved ones and neighbors, in a vast array of home maintenance and improvement projects. Later in life, Anthony discovered an interest and talent for art. This realization lead to a prolific output of fantastic paintings, which are currently displayed proudly throughout the homes of loved ones. More than anything, however, Anthony loved spending time with his family. Famous for his quick wit, warm smile, and sense of adventure, he will be sorely missed.
Anthony is survived by: his wife of 54 years, Diane; his eldest son David, and his wife Janice; his daughter Kristen Murrin, and her husband Christopher; his youngest son Matthew, and his wife Alexandra. He also leaves behind three loving grandchildren: Andrew, Amanda, and Emily Murrin, in addition to a large extended family.
Memorial calling hours were held Tuesday, August 8, 2017 from 4:00pm to 6:00pm with a service that began at 5:30pm in the Peabody Funeral Homes and Crematorium, 290 Mammoth Rd, Londonderry.
