John Alden (Jack) Williams
Jack passed away at Bourne Manor Nursing Home on August 3, 2017 at the age of 92. He was born June 29, 1925 to Frank and Ethel Williams of Peg Road, Duxbury (later known as Church Street). As a young man, he served as a volunteer fireman with the Duxbury Fire Department. He also served as a volunteer with the US Coast Guard Reserve, walking Duxbury Beach during World War II. Jack worked for over 45 years at Protectowire in Pembroke then worked several years at Ritchie Compass in Pembroke. He also served as manager/custodian of Tarkiln Youth Center for several decades. Except for living about six years in Pembroke after getting married, Jack lived the majority of his life in Duxbury. In the 60s, after purchasing his childhood home from his father, Jack established the Williams Tree Farm, selling Christmas trees and providing green space for neighbors to utilize. Jack was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth L.(Betty) Williams whom he married on February 14, 1954 and she passed away August 12, 1995. He and Mom loved to dance and Jack continued dancing at Fred Astaire in Plymouth until shortly before his passing.
Jack is survived by his daughter, Susan (Williams)Purpura, and her husband, Philip, stepson, Robert Parkman, stepdaughter, Catherine Ranemn, grandchildren, Deborah Ethington and Christopher Purpura, and great-grandchildren, Aradia Krueger and Calista Ethington.
Visiting Hours will be held at the Shepherd Funeral Home, 216 Main St, Kingston on Tuesday, August 8, from 4:00 to 7:00PM. A Service will be held on Wednesday at the Shepherd Funeral Home, Kingston at 10:00AM. Interment will follow at Mayflower Cemetery in Duxbury.
