Lou Ann Young
April 19, 1930 - August 2, 2017
On August 2, 2017, Lou Ann Young took her final bow and left this stage to be with her Lord and Savior. Lou Ann was born on April 19, 1930. Her biggest treasure in life was her beloved family. She was mother, mentor and confidant to thousands of students in her lifetime. Each and every one of them loved her as another parent in their lives and the feeling was mutual.
Lou Ann was the director and founder of Anderson Young Ballet Theatre Academy and Anderson Young Ballet Theatre (YBTT). She earned her BA from Butler University and had extended studies at Canada's National School of Ballet. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church (Anderson & New Castle). Lou Ann began teaching at t he age of 11 years old and has consistently taught thousands of students who love her dearly from Van's Dance Studio, First Nighters, New Palestine School, Indiana Dance Alliance, Highland High School, Lou Ann's School of the Dance, Anderson Young Ballet Theatre Academy, Anderson University Dramatic Players and Ball State University (Assistant Professor of Dance, Department of Theater and Dance). Her many life accomplishments include hours upon hours as a volunteer to community theater throughout Madison County, charter member of NADDAA, positions within the RDA Executive and National Board, judge for IHSAA Board of Gymnastics, American College Dance Association, and Arts and Letters. Her accolades include numerous choreography awards, outstanding professor (Fall of 1991), profiled in "Outstanding Women of Indiana", several profiles in local area and state newspapers, various television stories, a feature on "Indiana's Own" and "We Are Madison County." Her ballet company was the host for RDA Misstates Regional Ballet Festival on three occasions. She organized many community performances to support the arts in Madison County to allow the old and the young the opportunity to share in the art of dance.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Walter (Minnie Ruth) Koontz; her parents, Willis Edward Henry "Bill" (Vyrgil Oneida) Klus and, her brother, Walter William (Carolyn) Klus, her husband, Oran Douglas Young, her loving mentors and friends, Margaret Saul and Evelyn Shatner. Her grandfather was the original owner of the Klus Flower Shop in Anderson.
She leaves behind her loving family, Jeremiah D. (C. Susan) Young and their children, Nicole (Paul) Wright, Zachary Young (fiancée Victoria Welch and son, Benton); her daughter, Kimi (Ron) Covington and their children, R. D. (Dawn) Covington children, Drake Fisher and Aurora Danielle; Rhea (Bryan) Balmaseda their children, Mila Riley, Mika Ryan, daughter, Ronda (Ernesto) Velazquez; her sister, Oneida Ruth Clement, (children Dr. Mark Clement and Bretta Benson)
The family would like to express their gratitude to her caregivers as well as to the hospice staff of Community Hospital.
Funeral Services will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, August 7, 2017 at First United Methodist Church; 1215 Jackson Street; Anderson, with Pastor Corinne Boruff officiating. Private burial will take place in Mooreland Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday at Rozelle-Johnson Funeral Service.
In lieu of flowers, the family is asking for donations for the world premier performance of "The Little Mermaid" in Lou Ann's honor.
