Dorothy Amelia (Kahl) Frew, age 93 passed away peacefully on Thursday morning, August 3, 2017, in New Haven, CT., surrounded by her family. Her warm personality, sense of style, and unwavering commitment to family will be dearly missed.
She was born to Henry Albert Kahl and Amelia (Lux) Kahl on February 13, 1924 in New York. She was predeceased by her older sister Helen (Kahl) Thompson, brother in-law Charles Thompson of Mystic, CT and by her loving husband of 45 years John Alexander Frew.
She is survived by her three daughter’s Jayne C. Frew of Portland, ME., her daughter Kristine A. (Frew) Yanoff and her husband Ronald M. Yanoff of Wilton, CT., and their three children Matthew J. Yanoff, Scott A. Yanoff and Alexandra O. Yanoff., and her daughter Lisa A. (Frew) Casparius and her husband Norman Casparius of Portland, ME., and their two sons Alexander R. Casparius and Erik N. Casparius and many nieces and nephews.
Soon after they married, Dorothy and John temporarily relocated to Istanbul, Turkey where John worked for Pan American Airlines. Together they enjoyed the adventures of living abroad and traveling extensively throughout Europe.
“Dorothy (or Dott)” as she was known, raised her family in Northville, Michigan and Mystic, Connecticut. Dorothy worked for the J.L. Hudson Corporation and was an active member of the Northville Garden Club, the Antique Society, and the Northville Historical Society. In 1982 they retired and moved to Mystic, CT full time. They continued to travel to Europe and throughout the United States. She enjoyed many happy years in Mystic, which included being an active volunteer and Friend of the Mystic & Noank Library and the Child and Family Agency. Dorothy’s favorite pastimes where rug hooking, reading, crossword puzzles, volunteering, gardening, shoe shopping, spending time with family, and enjoying a good glass of red wine.
Dorothy's generous spirit will be cherished by family and friends for years to come.
A celebration of life will be held for family and friends on Saturday, August 26th at 2PM at the Mystic & Noank Library.
