Cynthia (Cindy), born September 26, 1957, was granted her angel wings on August 1, 2017 after a courageous and hard-fought battle with cancer.
Cindy leaves behind her beloved spouse, Carrie Michon of Voluntown, CT, her sister Phyllis and husband Steve Barr of North Kingstown, RI, sister-in-law, Bonnie DeSouza of Stonington, CT; sister-in-law Lisa Michon of Norwich, CT, brother-in-law Lee Michon and wife Clare of Canterbury, CT, nephews David Barr of Warwick RI. and family, Greggory Barr of S. Yarmouth, Ma. and family, Mark DeSouza of Stonington, CT and niece Heidi DeSouza Myers of Norwich, CT. and family, and many cousins and loving friends. Cindy was predeceased by her parents, Frank and Caroline DeSouza and her brother, Frank Russell DeSouza.
Cindy graduated from Stonington High School and went on to earn her degree in Physical Education at Southern Connecticut University. Cindy retired in 2009 from York Women’s Correctional Facility in Niantic as a Recreational Supervisor after 24 years of service.
Cindy had many hobbies and interests. She had a love of travel, especially to Disney World, Maine and Cape Cod. Cindy was the life of the party and the party planner; everyone loved her bag of tricks. She also had a love of sports and animals.
Cindy will always be remembered for her love of music, singing and playing her guitar.
Cindy loved people and had the gift of finding good in everyone. She was always there to lend a helping hand.
The family and friends would like to thank Dr. Anca Bulgaru and the Oncology staff from Backus Hospital, Sister Rita from Backus Hospital and Hartford Hospice care nurses for their loving care.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:00 am Saturday, August 19, 2017 at St. Patrick’s Church, 32 East Main St. Mystic, CT. A private burial will be held with the family.
