Zigmond John “Ziggy” Prostak, 89, of Worcester died Sunday July 30, 2017 in his home. He is survived by the love of his life and spouse of 46 years, Catherine D. (Opacki) Prostak. He was a dear uncle to many nieces and nephews. He is pre-deceased by two brothers; Frank Prostak of Auburn, and Daniel Prostak of Worcester; 4 sisters, Mary Ryan of Holden, Statia Michalak of Shrewsbury, Virginia Vaillencourt of Worcester, and Wanda Blodgett of Monument Beach. He was born in Worcester the youngest son of Szymon and Aniela (Ziemba) Prostak.
Mr. Prostak was a graduate of Worcester Boys Trade School. He served in the United Sates Navy aboard the escort carrier USS Kula Gulf during the Korean War. He was employed by the Verizon Telephone Co. and retired as a central office technician after 36 years of service where he enjoyed working with his fellow employees. He was a life member of the Telephone Pioneers, Greendale Men’s Club and Our Lady of Czestochowa Parish. Ziggy was a great story teller. To know Ziggy was to love him and enjoy his company. He never lost his positive attitude during difficult times and always had a great sense of humor. He enjoyed skiing, bike riding, and fishing.
The funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2017 from Henry-Dirsa Funeral Service, 33 Ward St. Worcester with a Mass at 10:30 am in Our Lady of Czestochowa Church, 34 Ward St. Burial will in Notre Dame Cemetery.
