James C. "Jim" O'Neil, a lifelong resident of Charlestown, entered into eternal life on Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Royal Meadow View Nursing Home in North Reading following an extended illness. He was 78 years old.
Jim was born in Boston on January 25, 1939, a son of the late Matthew T. O'Neil and Frances M. (Nestor) O'Neil. He grew up in Charlestown where he was educated in the Boston Public School system. Jim worked in the maintenance division for many years at Mishawum Park housing development in Charlestown. He was one of the original founders of the Charlestown Militia. Jim was a devoted friend of Bill W. and was very instrumental with sobriety to the many individuals who requested his help.
Jim is the former husband of Donna M. (Arbuckle) O'Neil. He is the devoted father of Jimmy O'Neil and his wife Brenda, Kevin O'Neil and his companion Joanne, Michael O'Neil, Sharon Dupre and her husband Ron and Matthew O'Neil and his wife Patty. He is the loving Grandpa to Philip, Kevin, Taylor, Mike, Tara, Seamus, Sara, Liam, Brendon, Shane and his great-grandchild Rylan. He is the beloved brother of the late Helen Myers, Jessie O'Neil, Dolly O'Neil, Matty O'Neil and Robert O'Neil. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend Jim's visiting hours on Wednesday, August 2, 2017 from 4 to 8 P.M. with his Funeral Service at 7:30 P.M. in The Carr Funeral Home, 220 Bunker Hill St. Charlestown. His burial is private.
