Josephine (Smietana) Delano of New Bedford passed away peacefully at the Oaks Nursing Home surrounded by her family. She was the wife of the late James Delano.
Born in New Bedford, the daughter of the late Stanislaw and Francesca (Wojtal) Smietana, she lived in New Bedford all of her life.
Mrs. Delano was a graduate of New Bedford High School and Alliance College.
She enjoyed reading, games of chance, and times spent with her family and friends. Josephine had been a longtime cancer survivor.
Survivors include her son, Steven J. Delano of Denver, CO; her siblings, Emilia Foy of Attleboro, Wanda Francis of New Bedford, and Thaddeus Smietana of Attleboro; and nieces and nephews.
She was the sister of the late Sophie Smietana, Dr. Walter Smietana and Janina Bryden.
Her Funeral will be held on Friday at 10:30 AM from the Saunders-Dwyer Home for Funerals, 495 Park St., New Bedford, followed by her Funeral Mass at Our Lady of Guadalupe Parish at St. James Church at 11:30 AM. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. Visiting hours will be on Thursday from 5-7 PM.
