James A. Fitzpatrick Jr., a lifelong resident of Canton and retired Canton Fire Chief, died peacefully July 21, 2017. He was 79 years old. Chief Fitzpatrick served the town of Canton as a firefighter starting in 1958, and served as the Chief of the Fire Department from 1978 to 2001. He was active in the Canton community as a member of the Canton Historical Society and Canton Senior Citizens Council on Aging. He enjoyed Civil War history and the history of the town of Canton, and volunteered for the Canton Area Helpline and the Canton Food Pantry, among many other services. Beloved husband of the late Doris E. Fitzpatrick (Briffett). Loving father of Lynne D. Fitzpatrick of Knoxville, TN, James A. Fitzpatrick III and his partner Bruce H. Randall of Attleboro, Susan E. Brown and her husband Stanley of Plainville, and Ann M. Benson and her husband Joseph of Canton. Brother of Richard N. Fitzpatrick of Stoughton. Proud grandfather of Kathryn and Tyler Benson of Canton. Visiting hours in the Pushard Family Funeral Home 210 Sherman St., Canton Monday from 4-8 PM. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. A Funeral Service will be held Tuesday July 25th in the Congregational Church of Canton, 1541 Washington St, at 10 AM.
