Dorothy Muriel Nearen, 94, of Beach Point, North Truro, and Hilton Head, South Carolina died peacefully on Thursday, July 20th, 2017 at Seashore Point in Provincetown. Her beloved partner of over 60 years, Marilyn B. Cubberley died in 2015.
Dorothy was born in Charlestown, Mass., and spent a rewarding 24 years in the U.S. Navy. She was stationed for most of her career in Brooklyn, NY, which is where she met Marilyn. Dorothy resided between homes on Beach Point, North Truro and Hilton Head Island, SC, areas which she loved dearly.
After the Navy, Dorothy spent the last 60 years as a successful innkeeper in both Provincetown and Truro, with generations of guests becoming close friends. Dorothy was driven, successful and to those who loved her, occasionally opinionated. She had many life passions, the first being her love of Marilyn, along with success, golf, travel and her many friends. She also loved the many dogs and cats which she and Marilyn shared throughout their life together.
Dorothy is survived by her nieces Janice Nearen-Bell, Nancy Nearen, Theresa Nearen-Almonacid; nephews Paul Nearen, John Nearen and a loving cousin and goddaughter June Scibelli. She also leaves her dearest friend Carol Nickerson of Truro, grandnieces Rose Almonacid, Melissa Nearen, Kathleen Nearen, Christine Nearen, Nicole Nearen, Kaylee Nearen and many dear friends. She was predeceased by her brothers William, John and Edward Nearen.
A Graveside Service will be held at Old North Cemetery, Route 6, North Truro on Friday, July 28, 2017 at 11:00 am.
