Gertrude Helen (MacKinnon) Long, age 92, left this world peacefully surrounded by her family, at Wingate Silver Lake in Kingston, on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.
Gertrude was the daughter of the late Parker C. and Josephine (MacLeod) MacKinnon of Canada. Loving wife to the late Roger G. Long and sister to the late Eleanor Harrison of Everett Washington and Donald MacKinnon of Roslindale. Devoted mother to David G. Long and his wife Joan of Pembroke, MA and Stephen C. Long and his wife Catherine of Plymouth, MA. Loving grandmother to Matthew and his wife Meghan of Colorado, Timothy and his wife Micaela of Medford, Peter and his wife Leigh of New Marlborough, Kevin and his wife Molly of Dedham, Corinne of Boston, Meghan of Maryland and Patrick of Plymouth. Cherished great-grandmother to Kayley, Declan, Quinlan and Conlan Long of Colorado and Olive Flora Long of Medford. Also mother to the late Richard A. Long of Natick, MA.
Gertrude was a long time resident of Natick and took great pride in maintaining her home where she enjoyed over 68 years of marriage. Known for her collection of roosters, Gertrude was an excellent cook baking brownies from scratch and her chicken wings from a guarded recipe. She would add a little of this, a little of that and a lot of love into everything she did. She was a great friend and neighbor always willing to lend a hand. Her neighbors were like family. They shared in life's celebrations and sometimes just celebrated life. She was always ready to stop for a chat or provide a shoulder to lean on. A day did not go by that she did not reach out and make someone's day a little brighter. She made a lasting, loving impression on everyone she met.
A longtime member of the Framingham Country Club, she also enjoyed visits to family to Errol, New Hampshire. It was a peaceful faraway place where she could imagine she was in a foreign country and life moved at a gentler pace. She loved her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was proud of their success' and accomplishments.
She was adored by all the staff at Wingate Silver Lake where she made many friends and a lasting impression to all.
Family and friends are kindly invited to her visiting hours at the John Everett & Sons Funeral Home, 4 Park Street, at NATICK COMMON, on Friday, July 21, 2017, from 5:00-8:00 PM.
