SPRINGFIELD – Dolores (Razoog) Ghareeb, 90, a longtime resident of the Atwater Park section of Springfield, passed into Eternal Life on Saturday, July 15, 2017 at home surrounded by the care and comfort of her loving family. She was born in Detroit, Michigan on December 31,1926, the beloved daughter of the late George and Edna (Bashara) Razoog. She attended schools in Grand Rapids, MI and graduated from Ottawa Hills High School. In 1950, Dolores married her beloved husband of 65 years, the late Edward A. Ghareeb and moved to Springfield, Massachusetts to begin their life together. Dolores along with her husband, Ed, co-owned Pioneer Shade and Awning/Chilson’s Shops, Inc. in Springfield and Easthampton. She also worked for Standard Electric Time/Johnson Controls in the Bookkeeping Department. Dolores was an active member of the community. She was a Den Mother for her sons’ Cub Scout Troop and was President of the Auxiliary of the Syrian Lebanese-American Club on Chapin Terrace. Dolores was also a member of the Christ Church Cathedral Choir, the Springfield Symphony Chorus and belonged to the Tuesday Morning Music Club. She was a frequent soloist in these choirs as well as a wedding soloist. She was also a communicant of Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral in Springfield. Her greatest joy was cooking and entertaining for both family and friends and sharing her Lebanese cooking talents with those she loved. For Dolores, the highlight of every year was celebrating Christmas Eve in their home where she provided a Lebanese feast for family and friends. She ended the evening with her special rendition of “O Holy Night”. Another enjoyment was being on family vacations in Old Orchard Beach and Virginia Beach. Dolores also traveled with Ed to many countries in Europe and Asia over the years including their special trip to Lebanon in 1999. When her children were younger, they all enjoyed spending summers with Dolores' family and friends in Grand Rapids and Detroit. Dolores is survived by her three loving children, Cindy Hashim of Pittsfield, Edward G. Ghareeb and his wife, Peg, of Southampton and David A. Ghareeb and his wife, Kim, of Easthampton; her six grandchildren whom she adored, Jennifer Hashim and her husband, Brendan Sheran, Joseph Hashim, III, Nathan and Nicholas Ghareeb and Jack and Chelsey Ghareeb; her cherished great-grandson, Maxwell Sheran; her special niece and nephew, Gina (Razoog) Maxlow and Michael Razoog, both of Grand Rapids, MI whose lives she influenced after the death of their father. She is also survived by her dear cousins, Joyce Gutierrez and Shirley Hanna, both of Grand Rapids, MI who were like the sisters she never had; as well as other dear relatives in Grand Rapids and Detroit. She is survived by her three sisters-in-law, Vivian Doummar of Virginia Beach, VA, Lorrie Hadad of Rockville, MD and Jan Ghareeb of West Springfield; her brother-in-law, Ernie Ghareeb and his wife, Jeanette, of Springfield; and her many nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was also predeceased by her brother, George Razoog, Jr.; her two sisters-in-law and their husbands, Sally and Ted Hyder; Ann and Bob Hynes; and her three brothers-in-law, Hap Doummar, Buzz Hadad and Joe Ghareeb. The family would like to thank Dolores’ special caregivers, Esther, Felicita, Alyssa, Carmen, Margarita and Angie who took such wonderful care of her and made it possible for Dolores to remain comfortable in her own home. Her family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 18, 2017 from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the St. Pierre – Phaneuf Springfield Chapels, (413-737-1177), 7 Chapin Terrace, Springfield, MA 01107. Her funeral will be held on Wednesday morning, July 19, 2017 where she will lie in state beginning at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Service at 10:30 a.m. at Saint George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 2320 Main Street, Springfield, MA 01107. Her burial will follow the Service at Fairview Cemetery, Abbey Memorial Drive, Chicopee, MA 01013. Her family has requested that memorial donations be made in her memory to Saint Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 Saint Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105-9959 or the charity of your choice.
