Sylvia Marie (Mutascio) Lawrence, of Framingham, formerly of Medford, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Wednesday, July 12th at the Metrowest Medical Center in Framingham. She was 93.
Born in Boston, she was raised in Medford, and was the daughter of the late Carmine and Giovannina “Jennie” (Vetrano) Mutascio. Sylvia graduated from Medford High School with the class of 1940. She and her husband Joseph married on October 12, 1952 at St. Clement Church, in Medford. Together they built their family with love and devotion.
A homemaker, Sylvia loved her family more than anything. In her spare time, she enjoyed sewing, knitting, crochet and attending craft fairs. Her favorite holidays were Thanksgiving, Christmas and Easter. They were always family centered and it was what brought her joy. Sylvia also enjoyed cooking and baking. There was always more food than could be imagined. Her family will always remember her signature dishes of eggplant parmesan, antipasto, and for desert, German apple cake.
Sylvia was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Lawrence, who passed away on June 27, 2017. The two shared sixty-five loving years of marriage. Sylvia was the devoted mother of Jo-Ann Waithe of Millbury, Jon Lawrence and his wife Vilma of Framingham, and Barbie Lawrence and her fiancé Wain Chambers of Framingham and Walpole. She was the loving grandmother of Peter Waithe Jr., Cara Waithe, David, Bryan, and Ashley Lawrence, and the loving great grandmother of Shanice, Jasmine, Ailani and Xavier Waithe. She is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews. Sylvia was preceded in death by her siblings Theresa Federico, Nicolas, Albert and Gaspar Mutascio.
A Memorial Mass will be celebrated in St. Clement Church, 71 Warner Street, Medford on Monday, July 24th at 10AM followed by interment at Oak Grove Cemetery, Medford. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours have been omitted.
