William L. Lewis, Jr. a lifelong resident of Woburn passed away peacefully, July 12, 2017, at his home surrounded by those he loved. He was 72 years of age. William was the beloved husband of Katherine L. (Lee) Lewis and together they shared 44 years of marriage. Born in Woburn, William was the son of the late William L. and Emma H. (Fields) Lewis.
William was a 1963 graduate of Woburn High School where he was a standout athlete and excelled on both the baseball diamond and football field. He worked as a heavy equipment operator for the City of Woburn for many years prior to his retirement. He volunteered coaching Babe Ruth Baseball in Woburn with his longtime friend David Crowley for nearly 30 years. William was a very talented man and enjoyed woodworking and crafting beautiful furniture for friends and family. He also enjoyed the art of photography. However his greatest joy was time spent with family and friends, taking road trips vacationing in the mountains of New England or traveling throughout the country. He will be greatly missed.
In addition to his beloved wife, William is survived by his devoted daughter, Kimberlee Lewis of Woburn. He was the brother of Bebe Pearson and Ricky Lewis, both of Lynn, and the late Bobby and John Schenck. Loving Pappa of Jacob Hughes of Billerica and is further survived by many nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be conducted in the McLaughlin - Dello Russo Family Funeral Home, 60 Pleasant St., WOBURN, Tuesday, July 18th, at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held on Monday from 4 thru 8 p.m. Services will conclude with burial at Woodbrook Cemetery, Woburn. It has been requested that in lieu of flowers contributions may be made in William's memory to Tufts Medical Center, c/o Development Office, 800 Washington St., Box #231, Boston, MA 02111 or Boston Children's Hospital, 300 Longwood Ave., Boston, MA 02115.
