Carroll “Sam” Harrison of Roslindale
July 11, 2017
Loving and devoted husband to the late Elena (Briguglio) Harrison of Roslindale, MA.
Brother to June Stremel of Temple City, CA, the late Bill Harrison and the late Barbara Haround. Devoted son of the late Elizabeth Roak.
"Uncle Sam" also leaves behind his loving nephews and niece Joe Albanese, Steven Stremel, Debbie Haround, Ron Haround, Tommy Albanese, and the late Richard Haround.
Sam grew up on Harrison Ave. in Boston, where he met his lifelong friends. In 1948 Sam went directly from high school into the Navy and served until 1952 when he was Honorably Discharged. While in the Navy he was a decorated Seaman on the USS Manchester (a light cruiser) serving in the Korean conflict.
After the Navy Sam returned to his life in Boston with his wife and soulmate, Elena (Briguglio) Harrison. They were married until she passed in 2000. Most of their life was spent on Washington St. in Roslindale, near to and close with Elena's family. While his waters ran still but deep, Elena had no problem stirring them up and keeping the both of them active. Together they made a formidable and fun pair.
Travel (where she went he happily followed) and family were always a part of their life and after retiring they took special advantage of the travel. Sam liked to cook (he made a mean Chili con Carne) and enjoyed spending time with Elena, family, and their friends at their cottage in Wareham, MA. He liked playing board games and was formidable at badminton. He also was known to enjoy a good game of “Let it Ride” at the poker tables, whether in Reno, Las Vegas, or closer to home in Connecticut. The only thing he loved more than living life was his wife and family.
Sam also loved to drive and was known to wake up in the morning and decide to “take a ride” to visit his sister June in California and on the way make a stop in Colorado to visit with his nephew Joe. In recent years he was known to visit Joe in Plymouth to go out for lunch and a beer at the British Beer Company. Sam also was known by name and considered a regular diner at the Tahiti in Dedham and The Pleasant Café up the street from where he lived.
Funeral by the P.E. Murray-F.J. Higgins, George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 2000 Centre St. West Roxbury on Tuesday July 18, at 10:00am followed by a Funeral Mass at Saint John Chrysostom Church, West Roxbury at 11:30am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Visiting hours on Monday, July 17 from 4-8pm. Interment in St. Michael Cemetery, Roslindale.
