Richard G. Jensen, 84, passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at St. Vincent Hospital in Worcester.
He leaves his wife of almost 63 years(October 2), Dorothy M. (Davis) Jensen, 3 daughters; Linda C. Gillett of Tampa, Florida, Joan M. Morse and her husband Ernie of Southbridge and Susan M. Hardies and her husband Dave of Charlton, 3 grandchildren; Jennifer (Hayes) Bailie, Matthew Hardies and Steven Hardies, 2 sisters; Janet P. Kellie and Maureen Niemier.
Richard was predeceased by 2 brothers; James Hooker and Raymond Jensen. He was born in Hartford, Ct.. December 5, 1932 a son of the late Gordon H. and Ethel E. (Tinney) Jensen and lived in the greater Hartford area for many years.-, then resettled in Charlton and in 2014, Worcester.
He was the founder of J.G. Dist., Inc. of Middletown, Ct. and worked for many years as a postal worker in Manchester, Ct. before retiring in 1996.
Richard a Past Noble Grand IOOF (Odd Fellows) in Portland, Ct. and was a life member for IOOF Corp Home and Hospital in Groton, Ct. where he was a volunteer and transporter.
He was a member of the Quinebaug Lodge of Masons in Southbridge, past president and treasurer of the Charlton Golden Age Club (Charlton Senior Center) and also received the Charlton Community Service Award as well as citations from both the Mass. Senate and House of Representatives for his service. Richard was also a member of the Federated Church of Charlton and was a Ham Radio Operator. Over the past several years Richard enjoyed playing billiards with friends, a game he really excelled in, whether win or lose. He also was a U.S. Army National Guard veteran for 9 years, fulfilling an obligation that he wanted to do and retired as a Staff Sergeant during and after the Korean War. He was also a member of the American Legion Post in Rocky Hill, Ct.
Funeral Services for Richard will be Saturday, July 15, 2017 at 11AM in the ROBERT J.MILLER-CHARLTON FUNERAL HOME, 175 Old Worcester Rd., Charlton, followed by burial in West Ridge Cemetery in Charlton.
There will be a visitation period from 9:30-11AM prior to the service.
In lieu of flowers, Richard requested that Memorial Contributions be made to: Shriners Hospital for Children, 516 Carew St., Springfield, MA. 01104.
