DOUGLAS – Rev. Chester J. Devlin, 73, was called home to the Lord on Friday, July 7, 2017 at Rose Monahan Hospice in Worcester with his family at his side due to complications from a stem cell transplant.
He leaves a brother, Kenneth D. Devlin and his wife Carole of Vero Beach, FL; a sister, Linda M. Orasz and her husband Leonard of Thompson, CT; 7 nephews and nieces, Chris Devlin and his wife Margaret of Ashford, CT, Denise Radell and her husband Anton of Polk City, FL, Scott Devlin and his wife Lyne of Norwich, CT, Darleen Lemieux and her husband Raymond of Rochdale, Brenda Manski Mills of Salem, NH, Susan Leite and her husband Nelson of Brooklyn, CT, and Robert Manski of Webster; 4 grandnephews, 4 grandnieces, a great-grandnephew and a great-grandniece. He also leaves his beloved golden retriever Toby. He was affectionately known to his family and to many friends as “Sonny.”
He was born in Webster and raised in Dudley, the son of Chester and M. Louise (Mayette) Devlin Talbot. He graduated from Saint Louis High School in 1962. He was awarded a Bachelor of Arts Degree from St. Bonaventure University and then a Master of Divinity Degree from Christ the King Seminary, both in New York State. Later he earned a Master of Religious Studies at Assumption College in 1977.
Father Devlin was ordained to the priesthood by Bishop Bernard J. Flanagan at Notre Dame Church in Southbridge on May 15, 1971. He served the Diocese of Worcester until retiring in 2002. He specialized in teaching and educational endeavors.
