Anne M. Hawkins, 80, died Saturday, July 8, 2017 surrounded by her six children. She was the beloved wife of the late William Joseph Hawkins, Jr. They had been married for 44 years before his passing in July of 2001.
Born in Providence, she was a daughter of Anthony and Mary (Lombardi) DiGiulio. Anne was a homemaker, and devoted herself to her children. Later in life, she worked at Providence College, as well as Schneider Arena as a secretary. Anne strongly believed in serving her community, and volunteered for the PTA, Athletic Booster clubs and for St. Philip’s Parish events, where she was a faithful parishioner.
She is survived by her children, Kathleen A. Connell and her husband, James of Smithfield and their children: Jessica Hopkins, James Jr, and John Connell, William J. Hawkins III, and his wife Linda, and their children: Hailey, Caroline, Hannah and William IV of Smithfield, Bernard A. Hawkins and his wife, Cynthia and their son, William of Smithfield, Cheryl M. Corsi and her husband, Dr. John, and their daughter, Nicole of Smithfield, Paul M. Hawkins and his fiancée Colleen Dickson of Charlestown and his children: Brittany and Caitlyn, and Kevin J. Hawkins, Lt. RISP, retired and his daughter, Julia of Smithfield, as well as her three great grandchildren, Jacob and Zachary Hopkins and Cullen Connell and her sister, Rita Ruggiano of Cookeville, Tennessee. She is predeceased by her brothers, Bernard and Edward DiGiulio.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held Wednesday at 11am in St. Philip Church, 622 Putnam Pike, Greenville. Burial will follow in the Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. Visitation Tuesday from 4-8 PM in the Anderson-Winfield Funeral Home, Route 44 at Greenville Common, Greenville.
