Obituary

Thelma Louise (Smith) Carter, 91, passed away Wednesday, July 5, 2017 at Norton Hosparus. Thelma was born in Glasgow, Kentucky (Barren County) and moved to Louisville at an early age. She attended Louisville Girls High School and Spencerian Business College. She was an Executive Secretary at Brown & Williamson Tobacco Corp. Thelma was an avid bowler for over 60 years and a permanent member of the Women’s United States Bowling Congress and a member of the “600” Club, a Certified Youth Coach at Dixie Bowl and Ken Bowl. She was a past president of the Shively Woman’s Club, a member of South Park Country Club, Kentucky Colonel and a member of Resurrection Episcopal Church.
She is preceded in death by her parents, Carrie and Roscoe Smith; a sister, Joann Plato; stepson, Bob Carter; great grandson, Brian Padgett; and nephew, David Plato.
She is survived by her loving husband of 51 years, William D. Carter; her daughter-in-law, Michaelyn Carter; and her three grandchildren, Bill Carter, Jessica Padgett ( Kenneth) and Rob Carter ( Tammy); her five great-grandsons, Bradlee, Brent, and Brandon Padgett, Christopher and Matthew Carter; her niece, Peggy Plato; and beloved family friend, Judy Esquivel; she will be remembered by her many cousins; and host of friends.
Her funeral will be 11 am Saturday at Owen Funeral Home, 5317 Dixie Highway; with burial at Resthaven Cemetery.
Visitation will be Friday, 3 pm to 7 pm.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hosparus of Louisville or Crusade for Children or Resurrection Episcopal Church, 4100 Southern Parkway.
