Obituary

Judith (Judy) Beiser Sands, of Westport, MA 5/6/1932 – 6/13/2017

Judy was a much-loved and respected member of the Westport community and was predeceased by her husband of 66 years Robert E. Sands. Judy and Robert were married on 9/1/1950 and raised their family in Marietta, Ohio before retiring to Westport, MA. Judy was an accomplished bookkeeper and loyal friend to many. She possessed the unique ability to make everyone she knew feel special and welcome in her life. She harbored no prejudices and welcomed all into her home and treated them as a meaningful part of her life. She offered love and support unconditionally to her many friends and expected little in return. Judy and her many friends enjoyed daily morning walks on the beach and weather was rarely a deterrent to their routine. This time together with everyone’s best friend was a favorite way to start their day. The terms rained out or cancelled due to weather conditions were rarely used by Judy or her friends or heard by their four legged partners. She loved unconditionally her children and grandchildren and never met a dog she didn’t like; her family and love of dogs were her two great passions. Her life was epitomized by a George Eliot quote: "What do we live for if it is not to make life less difficult for each other."

Judy is survived by two daughters; Karen A. Sands of Fort Lauderdale, FL and Elizabeth M. Sands of Westport; two sons, David R. Sands and his wife Bonnie of Cape Coral, FL and Marietta, OH, John F. Sands of Lexington, MA, four grandchildren Ruby and Aidan Sands, Mark and Stephen Sands along with his wife Lauren and Judy’s great grandchild, Luna Sands. Also surviving are her brother and his wife John and Maureen Beiser of Atlanta, sister Harriet A. Gobi of Spencer and sister-in-law Rose Sands of Worcester, many nieces and nephews, including Mark and Alan Voorhees, Jane Blitz, Judy Trope, Kate Connolly; Richard, Bruce, Bobby, Brian, Peter and Anne Gobi; Walter, Bill and Joe Sands, Jimmy Blanchard, Martha Twigg, Fay Flannery, David Mitchell, as well as many grand nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Barbara and Ralph Voorhees.

A Memorial Service will be scheduled in the future with burial to take place at Beech Grove Cemetery, Westport. Details will be provided in the near future. At the request of the family there are no calling hours. Please omit flowers; contributions may be made to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, Guiding Eyes.org, This is the Dog.com! or the individuals’ favorite charity in Judy’s name.
