Obituary

Robert Henry “Bob” Murray, a Medford resident for fifty-two years, and formerly of Charlestown, passed away peacefully, at his home, surrounded by his loving family, on Tuesday, July 4th. He was 87.

Born in Roxbury, he was raised in Charlestown, and was the son of the late Michael and Mary (Howard) Murray. After graduating from Charlestown High School, Bob enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served his country in the Korean War.

Bob worked at Hood for twenty-five years. After retiring, he worked as a custodian with Tufts University for ten years. A proud member of the American Legion and the Arlington Retired Men’s Club, he enjoyed his community and being with people. Bob was always smiling and fun loving. He enjoyed singing and if he couldn’t remember the right lyrics, he would add his own. A perfect husband, he was loyal and devoted. He loved and cared for his family and will be missed by many.

Bob was the beloved husband of Joan (McLoon) Murray, with whom he shared sixty loving years of marriage. They were married on June 14, 1957 at the St. Francis de Sales Church in Charlestown. He was the devoted uncle of many loving nieces and nephews and the dear brother of Paul Murray and his late wife Shirley of Charlestown, Jack Murray and his wife Marie of Wilmington. Bob was the dear brother-in-law of Evelyn Murray of Saugus, and was preceded in death by his siblings Louise and her husband Al, Russell Murray, Joan Gorman and her husband Thomas.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to visit with the family at the Dello Russo Funeral Home, 306 Main Street, Medford, on Monday, July 10th from 10 AM-12 Noon, followed by a funeral service conducted in the funeral home at Noon.
