Meredith-------Marjorie "Peggy" Wood James, 97, died Friday, June 30, 2017 at Goldenview Healthcare Center.
Peggy was born August 13, 1919 in Cambridge, MA the daughter of the late Leland D. and Irene (Leonard) Wood. She graduated from Hudson High School, Hudson, MA, attended Chamberlain School of Retailing in Boston, MA and graduated from New London Business College, New London, CT.
On February 7, 1942, Peggy married Charles Jordan James just prior to his enlisting in the Army Medical Corps. After the war, they returned to Norwich, CT and stayed until moving to Yarmouth, ME in 1949. There she had a small catering business specializing in fancy decorated cakes. Upon moving to Meredith, NH in 1960, she worked for Browning Laboratories in Laconia, NH for 18 years then worked at Bank East for a few years before retiring and moving to Bradenton, FL. In 2002, she and her husband moved back to New Hampshire.
Survivors include her brother, Leonard Wood and his wife, Jane of Orange City. Fl; two sons, C. Peter James and his wife, Verna of Grantham, NH and Jonathan D. James of Meredith, NH. One daughter, Marjorie J. Edwards and her, husband Thomas of Laconia, NH. Three granddaughters, Elizabeth Malcolmson, Sarah Vincent and Erica Edwards; six great-grandchildren. Her husband predeceased Peggy on September 3, 2005.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, July 11, 2017 at 10:00 Am at the Wilkinson-Beane-Simoneau-Paquette Funeral Home, 164 Pleasant Street, Laconia, using the Carriage House entrance.
