Richard T. White, 97

Richard T. White, age 97, of Chestnut Hill, formerly of Albany, New York, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 30, 2017 at Newton-Wellesley Hospital in Newton.

Born in New York City, New York on March 26, 1920, he was a loving son of the late Thomas R. and Ethel White.

Richard grew up and was educated in Bronx, New York. After honorably serving his country in the United States during WWII, he returned to school, earning his Bachelors Degree from Morris Brown College in Atlanta and later his Masters Degree from New York University.

For over twenty-five years, prior to retiring, Mr. White was employed as a director for the New York State Health Department’s long-term care division.

Richard had made his home in Chestnut Hill for the past two years. He was a former longtime resident of Albany, New York, where he was an active member of the VFW and Rotary Club.

Mr. White treasured the times spent with his family. He had a life long passion for music, especially jazz, and when younger thought of pursuing a career as a jazz vocalist. She also enjoyed going to the movies, dining out, attending comedy shows, and sharing stories and a good joke.

He is survived by his devoted children Renee T. White and her husband Jeffrey Harman of Norton, MA, Lorraine White of St Thomas, U.S. Virgins Islands and the late Javier A. White. He was the cherished grandfather of Naomi Randolph, Javier White, Eudora White, Kenneth White, and is also survived by 6 great grandchildren. He was the dear brother of the late Thomas White, Vivian White, Laura White, and the former husband of the late Clara S. White and Mary White.

A service in celebration of his life will be held at a place and date to be announced. Visiting hours have been omitted and those wishing, may remember Richard with a donation in his memory made to the Alzheimer’s Disease Association, 4 Pine West Plaza #405, Albany, NY 12205.
