New Bedford – Norman J. DesRoches, age 75 of New Bedford, passed away on Thursday, June 29, 2017 at St. Luke’s Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer and heart disease. He was the son of the late Albina Marie (Rock) and Roland J. DesRoches.
He was born in Acushnet, Ma and lived in this area all of his life. He worked as a fisherman and was a proprietor of a Laundromat. Norman loved to go for rides on his motorized scooter with his beloved dog friend, Angel. He was a big time Boston Celtics and Boston Red Sox fan, loved to be around his family and liked to go to the downshifter’s car club and car shows. He never missed his grandson Cody's baseball games or a meal. He also loved to read the newspaper and he never missed the news.
He is survived by his children; Rhonda McGowen of New Bedford, Carole Kumor of Fairhaven, Norman J. DesRoches of New Bedford, Jamie DesRoches and his wife, Ulrike of Germany, Sharon Pelletier of Dartmouth, Kristine DesRoches of New Bedford, and his youngest and most cherished child, Kitty DesRoches; he was also the father of the late Suzanne DesRoches and William Austin Parris III. He is also survived by 20 grandchildren; Amanda Gross, William Parris IV, Nicholas Medeiros, Cody Medeiros, Candi Soares, Suzanne Soares, Mindi Jalbert, Jeffrey DaSilva, Jamie DaSilva, Britney Parris, Patrick Parris, Scott Kumor, Curtis Kumor, Cassie Kumor, Jacob DesRoches, Philip DesRoches, Paula DesRoches, Jason Moniz, Justin Pelletier and Alyson Pelletier as well as several great grandchildren.
His visiting hours will be Wednesday evening in the funeral home from 5:00– 8:00 P.M. with a service during visitation. Arrangements are placed in the care of Perry Funeral Home 111 Dartmouth St. New Bedford, MA 02740.
