Obituary

After a courageous battle with cancer, we are saddened to announce, Kevin Michael Hanrahan passed away on Wednesday, June 26th, 2017. Kevin was a New Year’s Eve baby, born in South Boston on December 31, 1948. Growing up with sisters Ann and Mary, and brothers Gerard, Thomas and Joseph, Kevin had a fondness for animals, and particularly enjoyed watching horses. Later, Kevin was in his element as the lead singer of a band formed with his friends while attending South Boston High School. When he turned 18, Kevin was drafted into the Army where he bravely served in combat in Vietnam. He was awarded the Purple Heart for his courageous service after which he was honourably discharged. Upon his return to civilian life, Kevin was employed for a time at Mayor Flynn’s office, but found his passion in the construction industry. Kevin thrived as a plumber’s assistant and was eager to show others the fruits of his labours. Kevin lived the rest of his life in Boston and Hyde Park. He was predeceased by his parents, Ellen Hanrahan (nee Moriarty) and Thomas Hanrahan. Kevin is survived by loving family members in Canada and the United States. A Memorial Mass was said at St. Joseph’s Church in Port Elgin, Ontario, Canada. Kevin will be buried on Monday, July 3, at 9:00am in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, where his brother Thomas was also interred.
