Fay Judith “Judy” Stevens Wirth, a retired Registered Nurse, died at home peacefully on Wednesday, June 28, 2017, at the age of 74 following a courageous battle with cancer.
Judy was born July 31, 1942, in Northampton, MA, to the late Harry and Doris Stevens of Leverett, MA. Wirth attended Amherst Regional High School and the Franklin County Hospital School of Nursing. She served as resident nurse at the Winchendon School, and later as a pediatric nurse at Athol Memorial Hospital.
Judy was an avid seamstress and loved to quilt, sew and crochet. She was a devoted volunteer at her church and relished in serving the needs of her family and loved ones. She was a member of the Athol Congregational Church for over 40 years where she sang with the choir, served on the Deaconess and as a member of the Stephen’s Ministry.
Judy is survived by her son and his wife, Stevens and Dawn Wirth, Athol, MA; her son and his husband, Eric and Paul Specht-Wirth, Easthampton, MA; two grandchildren, Keira Wirth, Athol, MA, and Xavier Wirth Botelho-Hass, Holyoke, MA, as well as several nieces, nephews, and numerous other relatives and friends. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Charles G. Wirth, Jr., and two sisters, Carlotta and Dale.
A memorial celebration will be held Wednesday, July 5, at the Athol Congregational Church, 1225 Chestnut St., Athol. Calling hours begin at 1:00 p.m., followed by a service and reception at 2:00 p.m., officiated by pastor Rev. Beverly Prestwood-Taylor.
Following the service and reception, Steve and Dawn Wirth welcome family and friends to their home, 367 King Road, Athol.
In fulfilment of here wishes, Wirth’s remains have been donated to the University of Massachusetts Medical School’s Anatomical Gift Program. Judy’s family would like to thank the staff of Hospice of Franklin County for their help and support.
