Marcel P. Godin, age 90, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family on June 28, 2017. He was born on March 4, 1927 in Bertrand, New Brunswick, Canada to the late Maxime & Clementine (Leger) Godin. He was a graduate of Chicopee High Scholl class of 1944. Marcel was a WWII Navy Veteran. He was a member of the first graduating class of Holyoke Community College. He was a communicate of St Rose de Lima Parish and the former Assumption Parish in Chicopee. Marcel also served as the President of the League of Sacred Heart, member of the Parish Council, lector and Eucharistic Minister at Assumption of the BVM Church until the closing of the parish. He was a member of the St. Rose de Lima Parish Men’s Club, Acolyte and Eucharistic minister. Marcel was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, Council 69. He served a term as President of Springfield Industrial Association and was Vice President of William J. Carter Company, formerly of Springfield, MA, as well as a Sales Representative for Eastern Etching Company in Chicopee, MA before retiring in 1992. He was also a volunteer at Mercy Medical Center for 18 years for their transportation department. Marcel was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pauline (Auger) Godin of Chicopee, his children Michelle Godin of Waterbury, CT, David and Hilary Godin of Suffield CT, Mark Godin and Mike Boyce of Phoenix AZ and Robert and Susan Godin of Rockledge, FL. Marcel also leaves behind his grandson Benjamin Godin, the light of his life. In addition Marcel leaves his sister Jeannine (Godin) Hunter and her husband Alan of Holyoke, and also many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by one sister Jacqueline Hamel. The family wishes to thank the Mercy Hospice Program for all their care and assistance in Marcel's final days. A Funeral Service will be held on Sat, July 1, 2017 from 10:30 AM at the Grise Funeral Home 280 Springfield St. Chicopee, MA with a Mass of Christian Burial to take place at 12:00 PM at St Rose de Lima Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Calling Hours will be held Today Fri, June 30, 2017 from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the funeral home.
