Obituary

Dartmouth – James Marland, 72, of New Bedford died Monday, September 26, 2005 after a long illness.

Mr. Marland was born in North Dartmouth, son of the late Harry and Irene B. (Morrell) Marland, and had resided in Dartmouth and New Bedford for most of his life. A veteran of the Korean Conflict, he served his country in the United States Army. Prior to his retirement, he was an auto mechanic for the former Elm Motors of New Bedford. Her will be remembered for his clever sense of humor that everyone who knew him enjoyed.

He is survived by 2 sons: Richard J. Marland of Ft. Pierce, FL and John Marland of Cleveland, MO; 3 daughters: Paula J. Lima of New Bedford, Jane M. Maltese of Sanford, ME and Christine A. Magalhayes of VA; 4 sisters: Emma I. DeMello of Dartmouth, Ruth A. Rodriguez of New Bedford, Lillian M. Bariteau of Freetown and Hilda Kerley of IL; 9 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

He was the father of the late Penny Bok and Kathleen Mariano and the brother of the late George Marland and Pearl Lafreniere.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.
