James E. "Jimmy" Williams, 55 of Mystic, passed away June 22, 2017. The son of
Edward A. Williams and Anna Mary Mahon, he was born in Hempstead, NY and graduated
from Far Rockaway High School.
He is survived by his wife Cynthia J. (Allen) Williams, daughter Rose Marie, step daughter Melanie Fowler and two grandsons Mason and Jaxson, father and mother-in- law Jim and Shirley Allen, brother and sister-in-law Ed and Terri Kane, a nephew and niece and aunts, uncles and cousins.
As a young boy, Jimmy has fond memories of spending time on his grandfathers boat, going to Playland Amusement Park and taking the train to Yankee Stadium. He remained an avid Yankees fan and enjoyed teaching Rose all about playing baseball and Yankees history.
During his young adult years, he enjoyed playing all kinds of sports but especially loved being on the Long Beach Rebels Stickball team as catcher.
Family brought Jimmy and his Mom to the Mystic area where he met his beloved wife Cindy
who he affectionately called "Love." He was a devoted Father who was always ready to play a game, never to busy for family fun.
A lover of Florida and all things Disney, he brought his family on vacation there as much
as possible and never tired of riding the roller coasters with Rose.
During the past decade, he achieved several goals. One was to walk 3 miles every day which
he did for over 5 years without ever missing a day. Another goal was to climb Mt Washington. He and Cindy enjoyed it so much they went back and did it again the same year.
In more recent years, he discovered the game Cornhole which he really loved playing with family and friends as well as competitively. He even won a local tournament with his friend Rich and
a co-ed tournament with Cindy, just to name a few. Although Jimmy excelled in just about every sport he played, he remained humble and a good sport. He was eager to help and teach others.
Even if you were on the opposing team, he would encourage you and cheer you on.
As a valued employee for the Town of Stonington, he worked at the Transfer Station for almost 24 years and truly enjoyed his job. Remembered for wearing a suit and tie to his interview,
"He stood out above the rest."
No words can express the loss his family and friends are feeling at this time. He will be sadly
missed by all.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 8, at 2:00 at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses, 170 Flanders Rd Mystic. All are welcome.
